It's easy to reduce the amount of smoke your wood stove, fireplace, or fireplace insert produces.

Wet wood is the major cause of smoky fires-- so split and stack wood letting it dry for at least six months in a protected place.

Build small, hot fires and give your fire plenty of air. Cutting off the air by closing the damper will produce too much smoke and waste wood.

Use a wood stove, pellet stove, or fireplace insert that has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency.

This approval means a stove with greater heating efficiency which, if used properly,
will produce less smoke.

Another step to ensure better air quality is to insulate your home. A well-insulated home helps reduce your heating needs.
